Note: in German Universities a student must have three subjects. The first is your “major,” then you have a second area of study almost like a double major, and then a third subject which is like a minor.
Prior Language knowledge: 11 years during high school and college
Where did you go: Billings, Montana, USA
When did you go: August 2007- January 2008
Have you studied abroad before: No, but I did a half year outreach in Bangladesh
Q:
Why did you do it?
A:
I love different cultures and English, thus I wanted to get to know an English-speaking country. I also wanted to improve my language and culture knowledge.
Q:
Would you do it again?
A:
Yes, definitely! I had a wonderful experience living abroad. I enjoyed spending time with multicultural friends and learning more about my field of studies.
Q:
What was your favorite part?
A:
Being a part of the swim team, the Christian fellowship on campus and getting to know the wilderness of Montana with friends.
Q:
What was your least favorite part?
A:
There was a lot more homework.
Q:
What was the hardest thing/challenge you faced studying abroad?
A:
Speaking perfect English, and understanding the online homework of MSUB.
Q:
How has this study abroad affected your life now?
A:
I am more self-confident speaking in English and to understand songs and movies. Also, I don’t assume anymore that every American is living unhealthy and unaware of environmental problems.
Q:
What advice/words of wisdom would you offer students interested in studying abroad?
A:
Don’t hesitate to ask for help, take part in Christian fellowship on/off campus and ask locals to correct your language.
