Critic’s Critique: The Turtles are Coming, the Turtles are…Well, HereMarch 26th, 2010 by Lou Donaldson Of The Retort Staff ![]() Some of David’s turtles and lizards made from wood are in the outer gallery of the LA Building. (Photo by The Retort Staff) In the outer gallery on the first floor of the LA Building, inside the glass cases is the senior show by David Omen. David has crafted turtles and lizards from wood, melted glass and ceramic. Among the turtles and lizards are other works created by David. David has even gone so far as to learn how do small-scale pit fires using burn pits and outdoor fir places found both on the rims and down at Riverfront Park. This pit firing gives David’s turtles an individual look and feel. As an added bonus for those wanting to learn more about the techniques he employs while making his pieces, David is giving a lecture entitled “Ceramics: So Easy A Caveman Could Do It.“ This lecture will be held in LA 205 on March 19 from 4:30 to 5:30pm. David’s opening reception was held on March 19 and was in conjunction with the opening reception for William Crandle. This article originally appeared in The Retort, Volume 2 Issue 7.
