Critic’s Critique: Image from Picturing Paradise, Cuadros from the Peruvian Women of PamplonaMarch 26th, 2010 by Lou Donaldson Of The Retort Staff If you missed out on viewing Picturing Paradise in person, you truly missed out on a visual treat. The extensive detail of these hand-sewn pieces of varying size is staggering. Several pieces of different size and subject matter were also available for sale in the art office, giving the rare opportunity to take an individualistic piece of wondrous art home. Picturing Paradise is the brain child of Rebecca Berru Davis, a doctoral student at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. Her interest in Latin American Art, particularly that created by women; goes hand in hand with her interest in faith, justice, and art created by those living in the margins of society.
