I stared at Toby for a second,
I couldn’t tell if he was joking or not.
He always spoke in a low monotone
like a Buddhist monk chanting.

“If u cross them they’ll knock u out
and put a used condom in ur ass—
nobody ever tells the staff cause there too embarrassed.”

He looked at me through his round red glasses

“so there a gay-ng,” I finally say.
“yeah,” he said chuckling “you could say that.”

I liked Toby because you never know what he was going to say
