Native American Dances Demonstration

November 19th, 2010 by Patricia Hampton Of The Retort Staff

As part of Native American Heritage Week a program was made available to MSU Billings students. The event was held in Banquet Rooms A and B through the Rimrock Café in the Student Union Building. It was a two hour event beginning at 6:30pm on Wednesday, November 10. This event overlapped with the RHA Italian themed dinner (see Italian Themed Dinner was Hosted by RHA).

Students were given the opportunity to learn how to do some traditional Native American dances. They could either learn by participating and practicing themselves, or if the students did not wish to participate, they could observe from the sides of the room.

This event also included the display and sale of some Native American jewelry. Also on display were scarves that are draped over the forearm during some of the dances. These were not only on display, but in use during the practice of the dances. They were brightly colored and decorated with a variety of designs, from striped patterns to flowers and birds in flight.
