Ryan Shows Amazing Talent at Senior Recital

October 21st, 2011 by Melinda Wood Of The Retort Staff

On October 7, 2011 the MSU Billings Department of Music presented mezzo-soprano Mary Elizabeth Ryan’s senior vocal recital. Ryan is certainly talented and it is obvious that she truly enjoys singing. The recital started with “Lullaby” by Gian Carlo Menotti and progressed through many beautiful pieces such as “Le temps de lilas” by Ernest Chausson. A crowd favorite seemed to be “A Charm of Lullabies” by Benjamin Britten. Each lullaby had a different mood, and Ryan was very good at conveying them to the audience, even in a different language.

For “Mira o Norma” by Vincenzo Bellini, Ryan was joined on stage by soprano Brianne Rebekah Roney. This piece was probably my favorite to watch since both girls did a wonderful job singing as well as playing the parts of Mira and Norma. Both women are exceptionally talented and a pleasure to listen to.

Mary Elizabeth Ryan is definitely one to watch, with a voice like that she is bound for a career in music. If you are interested in listening to the other great musicians here on campus, check out the schedule online. The recitals are free to students. Trust me - you won’t be disappointed with what you hear!
