Independent Artist Review

November 4th, 2011 by Melinda Wood Of The Retort Staff

David W. Jacobsen has been writing and performing music for over 15 years. He studied at Berklee College of Music. In 2005 his album “Footprints” won Upstage Magazines top 10th album and his song “Christmas in Jersey City” won an honor award in The Great American Song Contest.

David W. Jacobsen’s album, Postcards: A Collection of Songs 1998-2005, shows off his singer/song writer skills. His songs run the gamut from bad office politics to bad relationships. I would describe most of the songs as a stream of thought; they don’t really have a hook like most other songs out there right now. I think that his music would benefit from a catchy refrain that would pull the listeners in and make each song stand out from the others. As it is the album runs together and no one song caught my attention. Perhaps the songs are too autobiographical to relate to, or maybe it just wasn’t my cup of tea. If you like acoustic singer/song writer music, give the album a listen.
