Students Show Promise at Music RecitalNovember 4th, 2011 by Melinda Wood Of The Retort Staff On October 19, 2011 the MSU-Billings music department put on a student recital featuring pianists and solo vocalists. The first four performances showed off the classical piano playing of Sattie Kwon, Brad Knutson, Rachel Kathleen Weitz and Anna Biegel. They all did quite well and played skillfully. The last four performances were soprano and mezzo-soprano soloists Kristy Dallas, Desja Tall Eagle, Shandel Buckalew and Darci Silbernagel. Sandi Rabas accompanied all of them on the piano. For the most part the singers did pretty well, but their nerves did show quite a bit. To be fair, the singers do have more of a nerve-wracking task than the pianists as far as the audience is concerned. While the pianists can hide a little behind the instrument, the vocalists must look at the audience, which must be very hard at times. It will be interesting to see these performers at the end of the year when they have had more time to become confident in their abilities. I always find myself surprised when the performers get up on stage. In most cases I would have never guessed there was so much hidden talent! There will be more recitals in the month of November, on the 16th and 30th. Admission to these events is free for students, facutly, and staff with the presence of an MSUB ID. I encourage you to go check them out. This article originally appeared in The Retort, Volume 4 Issue 4. Copyright © 2011 msubretort.org. All rights reserved. Recent articles in Arts & Entertainment
