Up ‘Til Dawn, MSUB’s Newest Campus OrganizationNovember 4th, 2011 by Patti Hellman For The Retort Up ‘Til Dawn, the NEWEST MSUB campus organization, is a student led, student-run program that raises awareness and funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. By joining with other students nationwide, you can help support the lifesaving treatment and research performed at St. Jude. This is a one and only hospital because it is one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude is also the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. In order to operate the hospital, per day, it costs $1.7 million, and most of this cost is covered by public distributions, like our Up ‘Til Dawn event next semester. In a couple of weeks there will be a whole awareness week going on, so keep your eyes peeled for signs to let you know what is going on! The awareness week will be ending with the Give. Thanks. Walk. on Saturday. To sign up for this go to www.givethankswalk.org, click register, and it is self explanatory from there! On February 2, we will have fun filling out letters, playing games, eating some good food, winning some prizes, hearing a Montana family speak about St. Jude, as well as watching some short videos about other children’s stories and music being provided by local talent. This night is where people who have signed up will bring 35 names and addresses per team member and fill out the letters personally and send them off. What happens if you bring 35 names, or even 50 names? Last year there were two incentives to bringing this many names, the prizes were for 35 names you got your name put in for the drawing an iPod Touch and for 50 names you got your name put in for an iPad. Now, I challenge you to put a team together and sign up at www.stjude.org/utd! Questions? Feel free to email the executive board at msubuptildawn@gmail.com. For the awareness week events, here are the dates and the explanations of what is going on:
